Three months ago, @droneadvocates had an idea: bring together people from across industries and talk about the future of drones in Texas. Last Thursday, that vision became reality thanks to my law firm, McGinnis Lochridge, 3D Robotics, UAS Magazine, Drone Dynamics, Gene Robinson, Coitt Kessler, Thinkery, Cloud 9 Drones and many, many others.
Over 200 people attended to hear from our industry experts:
UAS Magazine: Luke Geiver, the managing editor of UAS magazine, spoke to us about the future of the drone industry. UAS Magazine is the only quarterly publication, exclusively highlighting the most critical developments and cutting-edge technologies for unmanned aerial systems in the civil, agriculture, defense and commercial markets worldwide.
3D Robotics: 3D Robotics is Silicon Valley’s premier drone company and North America’s largest drone maker.
Drone Dynamics: Craig Nehrkorn, the founder of Drone Dynamics, talked about some of the amazing industry uses for drones and how his company is helping to make the promise of drone technology a reality. Drone Dynamics is dedicated to bridging the gap between robotics and today’s commercial and government needs. Their team started out as the in-house flight team for DJI and now supports 3D Robotics in their expansion to the commercial market. Their project portfolio includes CBS, Endeavor, Circuit of the Americas, BP, SpaceX, the LCRA, the University of Texas, Trammel Crow Company, HKS Architects and more.
Gene Robinson: Gene Robinson is a pioneer and legend in the world of a UAV search and rescue as well as the owner of both RP Flight Systems, Inc. and RP Search Services. Gene travels all over the world leading search and rescue efforts. Since 2005, Gene has utilized small UAS to assist Texas EquuSearch in searches from California, to New York, visiting 29 states in the union. He also conducted UAS operations in Jamaica, Mexico, and Africa and has assisted SAR teams in recovering victims lost for lengthy periods.
P.S. – I was lucky enough to interview Gene before our event – stayed tuned for a video of that interview!
Coitt Kessler: Coitt Kessler leads the nation in the utilization of drones for firefighting and search and rescue. He heads the Austin Fire Department Robotics Emergency Deployment (also known as the RED team) and, along with Gene Robinson, spearheaded the UAV search and rescue efforts after the 2015 Memorial Day floods in Wimberley and Blanco.
And we had some fun, too! We flew Solos from 3DR, had a rocket-launching contest (winner took home a Solo!), and played drone trivia.
Thanks to everyone who came out for making this event such a huge success! You can watch a recap here.
